Leave ApplicationS
Leave Management for SHRA and EHRA Non-faculty is administered by the Department of Human Resources. Leave for Faculty is administered by the Office of the Provost. Leave is granted to eligible full-time, part-time, and time-limited employees. Your leave balances can be found on the UNCGenie Employee Self Service Portal. If you have any questions regarding leave policies or procedures, please contact Human Resources at 334-5009.
The Office of State Human Resources has established a pilot program to allow state agencies and universities to offer Paid Parental Leave to promote physical and mental health for employee families, increase worker retention, and improve worker productivity and morale. Employees who apply for Paid Parental Leave will need to apply for Family Medical Leave.
An employee’s eligibility for Paid Parental Leave shall be based on the employee’s months of service and hours of work as of the date of the qualifying life event. An employee who becomes a parent via childbirth, adoption, foster care or another legal placement is eligible if:
- The employee is full-time or part-time (half-time or more) in a permanent, probationary, or time-limited (benefits-eligible) position;
- The employee has been continuously employed by the State of North Carolina for the immediate twelve (12) preceding months; and
- The employee has been in pay status for at least 1,040 hours in the previous twelve-month period.
For additional details on the program, please see the documents below, or contact the Benefits Office at askbenefits@uncg.edu.
All employees who have worked part-time or full-time at the university or another state agency for twelve months and have worked at least 1040 hours in the time period preceding FMLA leave are entitled to up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave in any twelve-month period for any of the following:
- The birth and first year care of a child;
- The adoption or foster placement of a child in the employee’s home and/or the first year care of the child;
- Care of a spouse, child, or parent with a serious medical condition;
- The serious medical condition of the employee.
During this leave, the employee’s pre existing health insurance coverage is maintained. Once the leave period has concluded, the employee is entitled to be reinstated to the same or an equivalent position.
Faculty members holding twelve month appointments, EHRA non-faculty, and SHRA staff who have a prolonged medical condition and who have exhausted all available leave may apply for or be nominated to receive leave transferred from another employee.
An employee may contribute vacation or sick leave to an immediate family member who is also employed by the University.
A non family member may contribute only vacation leave to another employee within the University. Certain other limitations apply.
