Equal Opportunity Employment

UNC Greensboro is committed to equality of employment opportunities and does not discriminate against applicants or employees based on race, creed, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, creed, veteran status, political affiliation or sexual orientation. Moreover, UNCG is committed to recruiting and advancing women and minorities at all levels in its staff complement.

The minimum employment age is 18 years, excepting law enforcement officers who must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring. There is no maximum age for employment.

Priority Preference

Some applicants that apply for SHRA positions at UNCG have promotional/reemployment priority due to their status as being current employees of the state of North Carolina, having been “Reduced in Force” or being Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Please note the following promotional/reemployment priority notifications.

State Employee Promotional Priority

A promotional priority consideration shall be provided by all agencies to all current State employees who have achieved career status. See the State Personnel Policy on Promotional Priority (.pdf) for more information.

“Reduction in Force” Priority Reemployment

Employees with career status who have received official written notification of imminent separation due to reduction-in-force are eligible for priority consideration under certain provisions as outlined in the State Personnel RIF Policy (.pdf).

Veteran’s Preference

State law requires that employment preference be given for having served in the Armed Forces of the United States on active duty, for reasons other than training, during periods of war or any other campaign, expedition, or engagement for which a campaign badge or medal is authorized by the United States Department of Defense. The preference to be accorded eligible veterans shall apply in initial selection and reduction-in-force situations only.

Note: If you think that you may be eligible for this preference and desire additional information, please access the Veteran Preference Policy (.pdf) on the Office of State Personnel’s website. If you have questions after reading the policy, please contact Human Resources at 336-334-5009 for assistance.
